Wednesday 1st March

Sorry folks, it’s been a long time since the last update of this page, and surprising for me, many of you have noticed. I have many excuses, including the busy Christmas period, but now it’s March most of my excuses are pretty weak. As most of you will understand, this update may be rather short on detail, much alcohol has passed my lips since some things have happened, but anyway, here goes.
Monday the 21st of November saw the game we had all been waiting for in the darts league, my Kings Head team at home to the team I play for, The Linton Holme. I have a substantial sum of spondulicks wagered on my belief that The Lint will finish above The Napper in the league. The bet is with Napper dartist and erstwhile drayperson, Dick Park, so when The Lint won the match 10-2 I was most chuffed. The night was made more memorable for me as an old friend from Manchester, Johnny Wirth turned up out the blue with his dad, and ex-Altrincham marksman, Johnny Snr. I got some good pics of the night, including one of Johnny Jnr. looking like Ron Howard, and they have been very useful in jogging my memory. Those of a gambling nature might like to know that The Napper are currently 1 point behind The Lint in the league, and there’s not long to go. I’ll keep you posted.
The day before darts saw me continue my bad habit of fell walking, this time it was the turn of Bowscale Fell to do my head/physical wellbeing in. The morning started beautifully, the sun was shining and the colours of the countryside were quite stunning.Unfortunately, the higher we got, the worse the weather became (me thinks this may become a theme during this article!). Visibility was so poor towards the summit Red Leader One made me and Phil wait in some bus shelter type thing while he recce’d the barren moorland above. He returned with great news…… we had to turn back and descend! To tell the truth, me and Phil were knackered, it had been a long and steady ascent, too long and steady for us novices, and we couldn’t wait to get to the pub.
The Mill Inn at Mungrisedale provided us with some excellent refreshment, and I noticed they were selling some walking guides that had been written by an ex-physics teacher of mine, Mr. Ramshaw. I found it strange that I should have remembered him, as I’m pretty certain that he won’t have a bloody clue who I am, and then it dawned, his daughter was in my year at school, and a mighty fine looking girl she was.
