Mike Vose has been landlord at The Kings Head since the end of June 2001. Born in Carlisle in the summer of ’69, he started working in the licensed trade on his 18th birthday, and has done nothing else since, literally, according to those who claim to know him.
Educated (perhaps the wrong word) at Stanwix Primary School and Trinity Secondary, he left school after finishing his ‘A’ Levels in 1987. He started work in a local nightclub known as Legends as a part-time glass collector and was offered a full-time position in August that year. He moved to the larger Pagoda nightclub the following April as cellar-man, and progressed to become bar manager by early 1989. Later that year he became manager at The Park nightclub in Whitehaven where, he worked for a year. Towards the end of 1990 he changed jobs and began work in his local pub, The Crown in Stanwix, for Scottish & Newcastle.
He spent over 10 years working for Scottish & Newcastle throughout the North West, before deciding to take the opportunity to run his own business and return to Carlisle and take on the lease at The Kings Head. After a difficult first six months trading, the pub was redecorated at the end of January 2002 and Mike is now running a revitalised, and successful, Kings Head.
Apart from eating and drinking, he also enjoys darts and supports Arsenal football club. In the summer months he can often be seen wielding a cricket bat, for both Carlisle Cricket Club, and the Kings Heads’ own cricket team.
